Many Leeds United fans have been reacting to comments made by Marcelo Bielsa about utility man Stuart Dallas.

The 30-year-old Dallas, barring two injury spells, has been a pretty much ever-present part in Bielsa’s side at Elland Road since the Argentinian took over in 2018, and has shown incredible versatility by playing in multiple positions along the way. And it’s that versatility that has earned the Northern Irish international high praise from his boss, with Bielsa saying the following this week in an interview with Sky Sports:

“He reminds me of [whom he managed with the Argentina national side] and Julio Saldaña, someone I managed at Newell’s Old Boys in my first managerial experience. They were very alike Dallas in terms of their versatility.”

Praise that becomes all the more impressive when you consider what Zanetti has won during his career and his standing within , which is why there were so many Leeds fans that were delighted to see the comparison when Bielsa’s words were relayed to them by @LUFCDATA:

“Huge compliment for Zanetti that.”

“Zanetti an Inter Milan legend wow what a compliment”
“Big dub”
“Zanetti and Dallas in the same sentence. High praise indeed”
“Must be nice for Zanetti to be put on a pedestal with stuey Dallas”
“Javier Zanetti wears Stuart Dallas pyjamas”
“Bielsa comparing Dallas to Zanetti, one of my favourite players of all time, has made my day significantly better.”
“Another Bamford. Virtually irreplaceable in the Leeds United system.”

Is Stuart Dallas still underrated?

If only he could just end up with a haul at Leeds that would match what Zanetti did at Inter, then that might get Dallas more recognition beyond the Elland Road faithful.
