Leeds United fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest comments made by Whites manager Marcelo Bielsa on Leeds striker Joe Gelhardt.

This comes after Leeds news Twitter account @leedsutdacademy shared a post on their page relaying comments made by Bielsa during his recent press conference ahead of the Yorkshire club’s Premier League clash against Manchester United at Elland Road.

Starting with an easy one who is Leeds United's top Premier League goalscorer this season?

On the subject of Gelhardt, Bielsa said that his “natural position is as a centre forward, he’s a player who has a great capacity to finish off moves and he is a player who has dribbling skills in the final third and just before the finalisation of the move.”

This post then gathered a lot of replies from Leeds fans who were quick to share their responses to this post.

So, what did these Leeds fans have to say in response to Bielsa’s comments on Gelhardt?

“its just a matter of time before he gets to play.. then there wont be any stopping him”

@malamute1

“Love to see him get a run out in the 1st team before the season ends. Amazing talent.”

@skeys147

“He’s definitely ready, how many times as our bench had no Centre Forward on it. He deserves his chance without doubt”

@AndrewFirth21

“Can’t wait to see this lad play”

@gardiner004

“Well play him then! Give him a decent run out rather than using Klich as a sub”

@kipa170

Lets play him them….!!”

Leeds signed Gelhardt back in the previous summer from Wigan Athletic for a fee of £900k. Since then, the 18-year-old, who is currently valued at £1.17 million, has managed to score 11 goals in 16 league appearances for the U23s but has yet to make a senior appearance for the club (per Transfermarkt).

Should Gelhardt get some minutes in the PL this season?

Looking at the replies to this post, it seems that these Leeds fans would love to see Gelhardt get his chance to play in the first team before the season ends and looking at his goal record for the U23s this season, it’s easy to see why in our view.

Given how Patrick Bamford has played in every Premier League game for Leeds so far this season, prior to the match against the Manchester club, perhaps it would be a wise move for Bielsa to put Gelhardt in the team so Bamford gets a rest and doesn’t risk picking up an injury.
