Leeds United fans have been reacting to a message put out on social media by midfielder Kalvin Phillips following their draw with Manchester United.
The game itself wasn’t the most thrilling affairs, a far cry from the high octane display that the world was treated to earlier in the season. And part of that was due to the fine defensive work that Phillips, valued at £24.3m on Transfermarkt, did to keep the Manchester United attack at bay.
He made eight tackles, three clearances and one interception, earning him a WhoScored rating of 8.08/10, the highest amongst Leeds players and only bettered by Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka (8.13). On top of that, he kept Manchester United’s playmaker Bruno Fernandes below his average number of key passes in a game.
That is why, when he posted a message on Twitter after the game, there were plenty of fans on hand to praise him for his performance, with many taking a cheeky swipe at Fernandes along the way:
“Bruno still firmly wedged in that pocket. Leeds through and through”
Would you like to see Kalvin Phillips named Leeds captain in the future?
Yes
No
It was arguably a performance that England could have to rely on this summer should they end up facing each other at the European Championships.
