Many Leeds United fans have been fuming at Nigel Martyn’s comments about Diego Llorente.

Martyn was recently talking to Leeds United News and he gave his views about Llorente’s situation at the club. He made it clear that while the Spaniard scored against Liverpool, he was unimpressed with his defending in the game and it had left him concerned in the 1-1 draw against the reigning Premier League champions.

He accused the defender of even making a ‘nothing tackle’ at one point, as he faced some issues defensively.

Llorente has been in and out of the team this season, as he missed quite a few games earlier in the campaign because of a groin injury. He later sustained a hamstring problem as well (as per Transfermarkt).

Starting with an easy one who is Leeds United's top Premier League goalscorer this season?

In recent weeks, he’s been more active in the first team. Since playing against Southampton, he’s played the full 90 minutes of every game since then, including against the Reds (as per Transfermarkt).

“Sorry Nigel I disagree as well he has been outstanding since commanding a starting place. He’s quick good on the ball and strong in the air. I think he has earned a few mistakes here and there after his performances. A very shrewd signing who looks at home in this league already.”

Against Liverpool, Llorente had picked up the highest rating in the game – 8.17. Apart from scoring the goal, he won four tackles and four aerial duels. He also had a passing success rate of 94%, which also demonstrated his impressive performance (as per WhoScored).

So the Spaniard clearly had a pretty decent game and he deserves praise for it.
