Derby County journalist Ryan Conway has been sharing some details on Rams striker Colin Kazim-Richards and his current fitness situation.
This comes after Conway recently uploaded a video onto his YouTube channel where he spoke about a number of topics concerning the Midlands club, including their recent 1-0 defeat against Norwich City in the Championship.
On the subject of Kazim-Richards, his involvement in the game against Norwich and his current fitness situation, Conway had this to say on the matter:
“He was getting some flack actually because people [have been] saying he’s been very poor since he signed his deal. There is that but since he signed his deal, he’s also been playing with a pretty bad hip injury, [he’s] been playing through painkillers and injections and it’s caught up to him.
“It’s obvious that he’s played for about five weeks not fit, which is an issue.
“That doesn’t excuse his form being bad because [against Norwich] I thought he was better in the second half, the first half I thought he was poor, things weren’t sticking to him and when they were he was selling passes short, second half, he was much better but the first half he was poor.
“Overall, for the last month, month and a half, he has been ineffective for the majority of the time but again, it comes with the caveat that he’s probably not been fit for about a month and he’s still being rolled out there so yeah, a little bit of sympathy for him.”
Since joining Wayne Rooney’s squad, the 34-year-old, who is currently valued at £540k, has made 33 appearances for Derby in the Championship, in which he has scored seven goals and provided two assists in the process (per Transfermarkt).
TIF Thoughts on Ryan Conway’s comments on Kazim-Richards’ fitness…
Given how the striker has failed to score a goal for Derby since their 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest back in February, this could perhaps suggest that the injury issues that Conway spoke about have been negatively impacting his game in recent weeks.
Do you think Kazim-Richards has had a good season with Derby so far?
In our view, perhaps if Kazim-Richards was to sit out Derby’s next game and get given a rest, then perhaps this would be beneficial for getting him back close to his full fitness if Rooney has sufficient options to replace the striker.
