Former Aston Villa favourite Lee Hendrie has detailed the advice that he has given to Jack Grealish in the past.

The Villa captain had been nothing short of sensational for the club prior to his prolonged injury absence recently, forcing the 25-year-old to miss the last seven Premier League fixtures.

In the 22 Premier League appearances prior to his layoff, the attacking midfielder had managed six goals and 12 assists, making him a key component in Dean Smith’s side.

Playing such a major part in the success of his boyhood club has seemingly been no burden to Grealish, earning a place in the England reckoning with his superb displays along the way.

Hendrie, who during his playing career was of a similar maverick ilk to the current star, has told Football FanCast about the advice he has given:

“I spoke to Jack when we were away and I just said to him, you know, ‘don’t ever be fazed when you’re on that block. You’re there to be the main man’.

“He’s pretty much shown that he is the main man at the club. It’s now about making him an even better player.”

There’s little doubt the Birmingham-born creator has been performing at an elite level this term – averaging an astonishing 7.67 with Sofascore – second only to Kevin de Bruyne.

Unsurprisingly, the Villa ace’s displays have brought about speculation linking him with a move to numerous clubs, in particular, Manchester City have been credited with a vested interest.

Having previously shown glimpses of his ability, this season has been a true coming of age campaign for Grealish – one that could make it difficult for Villa to retain their prized asset beyond this summer.
