Ewan Henderson has joined Scottish Championship side Dunfermline Athletic on loan until the end of the season, the club have confirmed.

The attacking midfielder has made three appearances for the Hoops’ first-team this season, all as a substitute.

He came on against Lille in the Europa League and Hibernian and Livington in the SPFL.

Henderson has been capped nine times by Scotland at Under-19 level and once as an Under-21 (via Transfermarkt).

It is his second spell away from Parkhead after he spent the first half of the 2019/20 campaign at Ross County.

Writing for the Celtic Star last month, Liam Kelly lamented Henderson’s ‘disappearance’ following his ‘impressive performance’ off the bench against a ‘top-class’ Lille side.

He argued that the lack of opportunities afforded him was ‘frankly bizarre’ and called for him to feature more regularly in the dead-rubber league games at the end of the season.

But clearly, Celtic do not have sufficient faith in the 21-year-old to properly integrate him.

Here’s what these Celtic fans made of the announcement:

These Celtic fans don’t see the sense in Henderson departure

“Should’ve kept him and gave him game time until the end of the season”

@matthewd67

“Why let a young player go when we have nothing to play for? We could give him a run and see how he does”

@OpticsBhoy

“I’m sure he’ll get everything he needs out of that move. This lad was breaking into the side two seasons ago. He was fast becoming a first pick. You have completely stalled his career with the last appointment in the dugout. If he had any sense he’ll follow his brother.”

@Swedleypops

“Came on against Lille early doors and had a great game. Barely been seen since”

@paddyonthewing

“The boy’s a good player and gives his all every game, he should be a regular starter especially against the lower opposition in the league”

@connorcarr2

“This is what’s wrong with our policy. Players such as Ewan should be cemented in the first team squad and developed. Poor decision here.”

@PatCattigan

“Ooft another one bites the dust, unbelievable”

@katedunbar61

“I don’t understand decisions like this, we’ve nothing to play for give the future of the club a run in the 1st team.”
