Ian McGarry has been speaking on the most recent episode of The Transfer Window podcast, where he discussed Odsonne Edouard’s future at Celtic which involves an enquiry from Arsenal.

He revealed that the Gunners have made an enquiry for Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard. The striker has bagged an impressive 81 goals in 160 appearances for Hoops since joining the reigning Scottish champions from Paris Saint-Germain back in 2017, collecting three league titles along the way.

Mikel Arteta is in the midst of a rebuilding job at the Emirates Stadium and has already managed to move several players off the club’s wage bill. It’s believed the former Manchester City assistant manager is on the lookout for young players with high potential who he can bring to north London for modest fees.

Edouard meets that criteria and is likely to leave the Glasgow giants this summer with only 18 months remaining on his current contract and no signs that he’ll sign an extension.

McGarry said: “As we’ve already spoken about earlier in the pod, about Erling Haaland and his potential move this summer, we at The Transfer Window understand that there is another striker on the market for significantly less in terms of the transfer fee, but potentially, perhaps, someone who could be just as effective.

“And that is Odsonne Edouard of Celtic, who has been a top scorer in the SPFL in the last two seasons, and someone who is available for around €25m. It is also our information that Arsenal are a club who have made a solid enquiry with regards to a transfer in this next window in the summer.”

TIF Thoughts on Odsonne Edouard…

Arsenal have had a difficult campaign so far, but the shoots of recovery are starting to appear under Arteta, and the young manager has made some positive changes to the first-team squad in his short time at the helm.

With the capital club looking like they could miss out on Champions League football yet again and the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah all still at the club, perhaps at least one of them would have to leave in order for the former PSG man to arrive.

But, at just 23 years old, Arsenal would be buying bags of potential if they move for Edouard, and Arteta may just be tempted to take a punt on the Celtic man this summer.

Meanwhile, at Celtic, Edouard has managed to produce 20 goals and four assists in 32 games, despite receiving criticism from the media at times. He managed to produce 28 goals and 19 assists last season for the Hoops, so you could say his creativity is down but he’s still been the club’s best attacking outlet.

However, as is mentioned above, with the player only having 18 months left on his contract, the Hoops won’t get many more opportunities to cash in on their star man before he ends up potentially deciding to run his contract down.
