Tottenham fans have been responding to Luis Campos’ praise for manager Jose Mourinho.

Campos said in an interview with the Telegraph he was ‘always looking to work with the best professionals in the world’ and placed Mourinho within that ‘very select group in the football industry’ (via @TranSPURS).

He worked under Mourinho as a scout and an analyst from 2012 to 2013 when the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ was in charge at Real Madrid.

He has since gone to take-up sporting director roles at AS Monaco and Lille in Ligue 1, building a mighty reputation.

Campos can count Fabinho, Bernardo Silva, Anthony Martial and Nicolas Pepe among the talent he spotted and, eventually, sold on for huge sums (via Bleacher Report).

He was instrumental in assembling the Monaco side that memorably beat PSG to the French title and progressed all the way to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Now he is available again, having departed Lille at the back end of 2020.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs make their move and, in doing so, signal their long-term backing for Mourinho.

These Spurs fans implore club to bring in Campos

“As a french girl who followed what he did in France: the guy is a gem. You think him and his choices are weird. Then you realize this is genius. No other guy is working like him in the world.”

@Lanigara

“Desperately need him at this club”

@_10kanee

“With or without Jose we need Luis Campos in… Or someone else as an SD. I’m sick of Hitchin and Levy being in charge of transfers.”

@AdamJaye

“It’s happening”

@yusufdadinho

“The rumor I want to come to fruition the most!!”

@Jason4COYS

“This simply has to happen”

@TheOriginalSP1

“Fingers crossed”

@EssexJarv

“On my knees”

@thfcramo

“Just give Campos the keys man”

@jspurs3

The clamour for Campos is understandable, particularly as the Spurs role would be different to those he has taken up before.

At Monaco and Lille, star players were moved on when the biggest clubs came calling.

But as we have seen with Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, Spurs are capable of hanging onto their gems. They could go up a level with a truly gifted talent-spotter.
