Peter Martin has been speaking on the latest edition of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show to discuss Celtic’s search for a new permanent manager.

Celtic parted ways with Neil Lennon back in February after a string of bad results left the Hoops trailing their city rivals in their search for a 10th consecutive Scottish Premiership crown.

One name which has been heavily linked with the permanent role at Parkhead is former Celtic player, Roy Keane.

The 49-year-old played for the Bhoys for just one season and only made 10 appearances before announcing his retirement in 2006 (via Transfermarkt).

Speaking on the rumours linking the former midfielder with the job at Celtic, Martin had this to say on the matter.

He said: “If they pick Roy Keane as the manager of Celtic, for me, that means that there’s no tactical or professional approach to how they’re going to try and wrestle the title off [Rangers], that’s my view on it.

“But on a professional level, if Celtic appoint Roy Keane as the manager of the club, for me, that means that there is no real insight of a long-term view on how to return the club to the top of the table, because his record is not worthy of becoming Celtic manager.”

The 49-year-old has previously managed Sunderland for just over two years and achieved Premier League promotion from the Championship in his first season at the helm (via Transfermarkt).

Keane is just one of the names linked with the job at Parkhead with Eddie Howe, Chris Wilder and Jesse Marsch making up just some of the other reported candidates for the job.

TIF Thoughts on Keane’s Celtic links…

Celtic have just watched their bitter rivals deny them of clinching a 10th consecutive Scottish Premiership title and the Hoops are expected to undergo a big rebuild in the summer ahead of next season.

However, given the experienced Premier League managers also reportedly on Celtic’s list, it could perhaps question whether Keane is the best man for the job.
