Former Celtic star Murdo MacLeod has spoken on The Celtic Huddle podcast regarding all things Celtic following the departure of manager Neil Lennon.
John Kennedy has taken interim charge of Celtic following Lennon’s departure, but rumours suggest the Hoops board are already looking for their next permanent manager.
MacLeod has suggested he thinks current Scotland manager Steve Clarke will be on the top of the board’s list to become the new Celtic manager:
“I think even the board would be thinking Steve Clarke. When you look at his last two jobs, the way Kilmarnock were very successful and then Scotland are at the Euros now,” MacLeod said.
“As long as you’ve got him tied up [before the Euros], you’ve got to get your manager sooner rather than later, don’t leave [it] too late.”
Clarke directed the Scottish national side to their first major tournament in 23 years but has been heavily linked with the Celtic job despite the delayed Euro 2020 tournament being only three months away.
Being pitted against the likes of England and Croatia, there may not be too many Scots hopeful of their side making it out of the group stages in the tournament – which would mean their last game in the competition would be on 22 June, with Celtic’s Champions League qualifiers beginning in early July should they finish second.

Clarke has worked wonders with the national side in getting them to their first major tournament in over two decades, however, we think the fans will be hoping for a manager such as Eddie Howe will receive the call from the Celtic board – given the success of another young manager Steven Gerrard with their rivals, Rangers.
