Celtic fans have been begging for interim manager John Kennedy to start Leigh Griffiths in their Old Firm clash on Sunday following comments made by former player Frank McAvennie.

With nothing left to play for but pride in terms of the league table now that Steven Gerrard’s men have officially been declared champions, there are personal matters that need to be sorted as well, such as players forcing their way into their respective national teams.

The 30-year-old Griffiths, valued at £1.35m on Transfermarkt, was left out of Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for the next batch of games, perhaps due to his inconsistent playing time this campaign, and speaking in an interview with Football Insider, McAvennie claimed that Griffiths needed to force the issue in order to get himself reconsidered:

“I would be knocking on Kennedy’s door and asking for a chance. There is 10 games left, two against Rangers and if I was Griff, I would be saying, ‘Get me in the team, I want to go to the Euros.’

His comments were relayed to fans on the Celtic Insider Facebook page, where they all agreed with McAvennie and demanded that he be given a place in the starting line-up on Sunday:

Should Celtic sell Griffiths in the summer?

Yes

No

No

Time certainly is ticking away and he needs to make every vote count.
