TalkSPORT Jason Cundy feels that there needs to be a severe internal punishment handed out to Rangers forward Kemar Roofe following his against Slavia Prague.

Steven Gerrard’ men were knocked out of the following a 2-0 defeat at home to the Czech side, but they could have stood a greater chance of snatching something were it not for Roofe getting sent off with half an hour to go following a rather gruesome tackle on Slavia goalkeeper Ondrej Kolar.

And as heard on the TalkSPORT Daily podcast, Cundy felt that beyond the red card that he received last night, which will carry over into next season’s League, £5.4m-rated Roofe should be made to face a massive punishment from his own side for letting them down on such a big occasion.

He said: “An appalling challenge. They need to throw the book at him. They need to ban him for a long time because it’s a disgusting, appalling challenge. The ‘keeper couldn’t play on. He knows what he’s doing, he’s followed through with his studs in his head. I’d ban him for 8 games, 10 games whatever they throw at him, you know, there can be no complaints.”

TIF Thoughts on Jason Cundy’s comments about Kemar Roofe…

Cundy is right that Roofe should be subject to some form of internal discipline for his incredibly stupid decision last night.

But given that Rangers only have the Scottish Cup left to fight for this season with the league title already wrapped up, any lengthy suspension would come across more as a ceremonial one instead of something more serious, at least in terms of this campaign.

As we have discussed before on This Is Futbol, there does seem to be something of a discipline problem creeping into the side of late, and now is probably the best time to try and snuff it out before they get set for next season when they’ll be in the Champions League, where discipline problems will be far more costly.
