Celtic pundit Russell Boyce has recently made a claim about potential director of football candidate, Fergal Harkin.

This came after Boyce appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel talked about multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was potential managerial appointments and what Celtic’s structure should look like. This led to Boyce talking about Harkin, and he believes that the Hoops could well look to appoint him.

Harkin has been linked with a move to Celtic, with reports saying that Man City’s current football partnerships manager is being eyed as a potential director of football by the Hoops.

Should Celtic appoint Harkin?

Boyce believes that if Celtic are looking to restructure the club with an eye at maintaining close ties with Manchester City, Harkin is someone that the club will consider and it would be ‘ridiculous’ to not think that way.

He said: “I think there is huge evidence there that there’s been a link over a number of years now. It is ridiculous to think that Celtic wouldn’t be exploring that link further when it comes to making a huge, huge change at the top of the club.

“In fact, let’s be honest – there’s a top-to-bottom change, really, that’s about to happen. To think they’re not going to be going back to tapping into the City ways is just fanciful, it’s ridiculous. Of course, they’re going to do that.”

TIF Thoughts on Harkin to Celtic…

Over the last few years, there have been multiple transfers involving Celtic and Man City. This includes the recent examples of Patrick Roberts, Jeremie Frimpong and Olivier Ntcham (as per Transfermarkt).

This shows that the link with Man City has existed and Harkin has been dubbed as a “transfer guru” in the past. His job at Man City revolves around managing the club’s loans and monitoring the development of the club’s players.

So if Celtic are looking to establish closer ties with the Citizens, perhaps a move for Harkin would make sense.
