Former Premier League player Keith Gillespie has been sharing his thoughts on the recent departure of Nicky Butt as Manchester United’s head of first-team development and the possibility of him taking his next job at Celtic. 

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, Gillespie had this to say on the possibility of Butt taking a job at Celtic after former Red Devils midfielder Roy Keane was recently linked with the manager position at Parkhead.

How much do you think members of the Bhoys' squad are worth according to Transfermarkt? Starting with an easy one how much do you think Odsonne Edouard is worth?

He said: “I think with Nicky leaving the academy, he’s obviously got something lined up. So, who knows? It could be that.

“We could just be barking up the wrong tree – but I’d say that there’s maybe a bit of truth in it, the fact that the timing of Nicky leaving then all of a sudden, there’s this mention of Celtic, so I’d say that there probably is something in it.”

Since 2012, Butt has had several roles at United throughout each youth level at the club including assistant manager of their U23s, assistant manager of the first team, academy manager and caretaker manager of the U23s (per Transfermarkt).

Despite there being nothing concrete yet in regards to Butt and his next career move, it’s easy to see why Gillespie has made the connection between Butt and Celtic with his former United teammate being linked as the club’s potential new manager.

Moving forward, with Celtic having fallen so far behind Rangers at the top of the SPFL table this season, it feels, to us, that there need to be some changes made behind the scenes at the club so they can turn their fortune around and try and secure the title next season.
