Journalist John McGarry has recently discussed the situation and future of Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.
McGarry was a guest on the latest episode of the Celtic Huddle podcast and the panel talked about numerous issues involving the Parkhead-based club. A main topic of discussion was the future of Edouard and his valuation by Celtic. McGarry revealed that Celtic’s valuation of the Frenchman will be more than £20 million and the Hoops could realistically get that sort of money from his sale.
Edouard has been linked with a move to Leicester City in recent days, with the Daily Mail stating that the Foxes are closing in on a £15 million deal. The same report has claimed that the Frenchman wants to reunite with Brendan Rodgers and Celtic owe a 40% sell-on clause to Paris Saint-Germain.
Should Celtic demand around £25 million for Edouard?
McGarry gave some information about the striker’s situation, saying that since there are multiple clubs interested in him, it could benefit the Bhoys when it comes to earning a high fee from his sale.
The journalist claimed: “It will be well in excess of £20 million and I think Celtic might still get that kind of money, because I think Leicester and Roma are particularly keen. If you’ve got more than one potential suitor at the table, that is going to work in the selling club’s favour.
“The problem at the moment, and the problem that happened last summer, was teams were petrified of their finances being hit so badly that they decided to stop investing. The transfer market took such a massive hit and it’s not really recovered yet.”
TIF Thoughts on Edouard’s future…
Edouard started the season slowly, but he has now found himself in decent goalscoring form for the Bhoys in recent weeks. In his Celtic career, he has found the net 81 times over 161 games in all competitions, which is a pretty good record.
While this shows that he is a very important goalscorer for the Bhoys, he is currently valued at £13.5 million. But since Celtic are due to pay a portion of the transfer fee to PSG, they might want to net a higher overall fee from Edouard’s sale. Because of that, it is easy to understand why the Hoops want a fee in excess of £20 million for him.
