Celtic’s former midfielder Scott McDonald has been speaking on the PLZ Football podcast regarding the vacant managerial position at The Bhoys.

Neil Lennon and Celtic parted ways last week after a disappointing season so far as their arch-rivals look set to clinch the Scottish Premiership title.

Following Lennon’s departure, John Kennedy has taken charge of the team as interim manager and some reports believe he will see the season out in charge.

One name which has been linked to the full-time vacancy is that of former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe.

McDonald mentioned Howe on the PLZ podcast and the Australian believes the 43-year-old could make a good catch for the Hoops.

“A lot of players do speak highly of him in terms of his coaching ability. But he’s had a lot of big personalities at his former football club and they haven’t played, he’s got rid of them very quickly,” he said.

“But that might suit Celtic, because they are about developing and bringing younger players through. And I think, really, Celtic now – and Dermot Desmond’s done it time and again before – where the questions have been asked and he’s certainly answered them.”

Would Eddie Howe be a good fit for Celtic?

TIF’s thoughts on Scott McDonald’s comments on Howe…

McDonald is questioning whether Howe can make the step up from a much smaller club like Bournemouth, which is a fair point. However, Howe got Callum Wilson into the England squad and oversaw Ryan Fraser’s journey to becoming a Scotland international to name just a couple, which shows Howe does have the credentials to manage the players with a bigger reputation.

Whether that will bring him un der consideration by the Celtic hierarchy remains to be seen.
