Loads of Celtic supporters have been talking about John McGinn after the Scotsman scored for his country recently.

Aston Villa midfielder McGinn played in midfield for Scotland against Austria, helping them pick up a 2-2 draw in the qualifying stages of the FIFA World Cup. The midfielder grabbed Scotland’s second goal, scoring from an overhead kick.

He played alongside Scott McTominay in Scotland’s 3-4-2-1 shape, picking up an impressive rating of 7.24/10 (as per WhoScored).

In the summer of 2018, Celtic made multiple bids to sign McGinn from Hibernian. The third bid’s value stood at only £2 million, and he eventually joined Villa for a fee of £2.79 million a matter of weeks later.

In an interview, the £25.2m-rated McGinn has revealed that he had actually made up his mind to join Celtic but he took into account the quality of Hoops’ midfield at that point. Steve Bruce, who was at Villa back then, guaranteed him that he’d play every game (as per Daily Record).

For Villa in the Premier League, McGinn impressed last season while picking up an average rating of 7/10. Even in the current campaign, he’s done well for Dean Smith’s side, while gaining a rating of 6.9 and getting four assists (as per WhoScored).
