Celtic fans have been reacting to a post on the club’s official Twitter account after it was confirmed that club captain Scott Brown would depart Celtic Park this summer.

The 35-year-old midfielder has enjoyed 14 trophy-laden years with the Hoops since joining from fellow Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian in a £4.4m deal back in 2007.

In his time with the Glasgow giants, Brown won an incredible 10 league titles, six Scottish Cups and six Scottish League Cups, but he’s decided to call time on his Celtic career.

The former Scotland international has made over 600 appearances for the Bhoys but will now turn out for their domestic rivals Aberdeen after signing a pre-contract agreement with the Dons, meaning he’ll join up with his new side after the current campaign has come to a conclusion.

Stephen Glass was recently announced as the new manager at Pittodrie, and Brown will join Glass’s new setup on a two-year deal in a player-coach role. The news, understandably, touched many Celtic supporters who were sad to see a modern-day legend leave.

“That’s actually a ridiculous statistic, name a stand after this legend down the line, what a captain he’s been”

@hctelfih

“Ah, Jesus Celtic I’m distraught now.”

@annemarie6377

“Gutted to see the legend leave thanks for all the great memories Broony you’ll always be a legend at the club”

@jamiecrosbie10

“What a captain you’ve been, quadruple treble winner, invincible treble winner, 9 in a row winner, wishing all the best for the next part of your career”

@papatony7

“Absolute legend. Good luck in your future career”

@GmTheCelts1967

“This is a massive mistake. Gutted to see the back of this guy an absolute legend that will be extremely hard to replace”

@chrislaurie31

Brown has had an outstanding career with Celtic, helping the Hoops achieve domestic domination during his time at the club, and their tough task of overhauling Rangers next season perhaps just got that much harder.
