Pundit Colin Watt has been speaking on the latest A Celtic State of Mind podcast to talk all things Celtic ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

Watt discussed potential departures this summer and spoke of Celtic’s options in the goalkeeping position with Scott Bain tipped as his pick to leave Parkhead at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper has featured 14 times for the Bhoys in the Scottish Premiership this season and kept six clean sheets in his time between the sticks in the league (via Transfermarkt).

However, Watt tipped Bain to be the goalkeeper which is most likely to depart this summer with the pundit suggesting he was not brought to the club as a long-term option.

He said: “As we go through the four goalkeepers that we do have, for me, I think this will be Bain’s last season in a Celtic jersey.

“I mean, you’ve got to remember, this is a guy that was brought in as a loan signing for the third choice. He was a third-choice goalkeeper who eventually through a number of reasons was brought in to be the Celtic number one.

“But there was absolutely no way that it was brought in to ever be a full-time Celtic number one – he was brought in as a stopgap. And now we find him in the position that he is the number one just now.

“He’s been playing regular football now at Celtic for the last 18 months or so. I think his time will move on and he will probably move on to another club this summer.”

Should Celtic sell Scott Bain this summer?

Celtic signed Bain from Dundee in the summer of 2018 on a free transfer but has struggled at times this season after conceding 10 goals in just his three Europa League appearances this season (via Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Watt’s comments…

Watt’s suggestion that Bain is the most likely to leave is backed up by his belief the 29-year-old was only brought in as a “stopgap”, and with Celtic expected to bring in a new permanent manager before the summer, there is a possibility the new man could look to sign his own first-choice goalkeeper.

Also, the fact Celtic bought a new goalkeeper last summer also suggests Bain’s future at Parkhead is limited, though how it develops remains to be seen.
