Colin Watt featured on the latest episode of the A Celtic State of Mind podcast to discuss potential incomings and outgoings ahead of the summer transfer window.

After discussing the potential departure of club legend Scott Brown, Watt highlighted Allan Campbell from Motherwell as a potential replacement for the 35-year-old.

Campbell has made 29 appearances for Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership this season and has found the back of the net on four occasions in the league (via Transfermarkt).

Speaking on the 22-year-old midfielder, Watt had this to say on the matter of replacing the Celtic legend.

He said: “Someone I’d love to see us pick up – and I believe he’s actually available right now to sign a pre-contract – is Allan Campbell at Motherwell. I think the guy’s got a really big future ahead of him.

“He’s obviously played alongside [David] Turnbull before. And I think he could be the next Scott Brown in that position. He plays a sort of box-to-box the way that Brown did in his younger years.

“And I think as he develops, he’ll drop deeper and deeper into the pitch and he offers a lot. If you had the choice between him and Ferguson, for me, it would be Alan Campbell.”

The midfielder has been at Motherwell for the entirety of his professional career and Transfermarkt believes the 22-year-old has an estimated value of just £1m.

TIF Thoughts on Watt’s comments…

For Watt to suggest Campbell could be a long-term replacement for a Celtic legend like Brown is a massive compliment. However, Celtic are expected to bring in a new permanent manager before the summer who is likely to come into the club with his own transfer targets with the summer window not too far away, so it is anyone’s guess what the future holds for both players at this stage.
