Colin Watt has been speaking on the latest edition of the A Celtic State of Mind podcast to discuss Celtic’s potential summer departures at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Whilst discussing Celtic’s options at right-back, Watt mentioned the possibility of signing the on-loan Jonjoe Kenny on a permanent basis in the summer transfer window.

Celtic brought in Kenny on loan from Everton in February to bolster their squad and has been mentioned as a possible target for the Bhoys at the end of the season.

Discussing possible summer targets, Watt has this to say about Kenny.

He said: “Looking at the right-back situation, you’ve got Jonjoe Kenny, only 24 years old, potentially available for £5m. I think that would be a fantastic buy if that was something that Celtic could afford and could bring in as part of this rebuild.

“I think his performances since he’s come in have been very impressive.”

Should Celtic try to buy Jonjoe Kenny permanently?

Kenny has made eight appearances in the league since arriving in Glasgow just last month and has even grabbed an assist in his 720 minutes wearing the green and white shirt (via Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Watt’s comments…

If Kenny does become available for this summer it is certainly something that Celtic should explore. Since the right-back has come in, Celtic have only conceded three goals in the eight games in which the 24-year-old has played.

Kenny has been passed about on loan by Everton, which would suggest his long-term future is not at the Toffees. With this in mind, Celtic could make a move for the right-back who may feel he will play consistent first-team football at Parkhead should the Hoops heed the advice from the likes of Watt.
