Celtic fans have been reacting on Twitter to former Hoops striker Chris Sutton’s theory regarding the Scottish league crown.

The Glasgow giants were hoping to make it ten league titles in a row at the start of the current campaign, but things have gone disastrously wrong for the reigning Scottish champions.

Neil Lennon resigned as manager of the Parkhead outfit last week after a 1-0 loss against Ross County left Celtic 18 points adrift of their fierce rivals Rangers.

With Steven Gerrard’s men only needing four more points to lift the SPFL title, and with the Old Firm rivals set to do battle next weekend, the Gers could end up winning the league on Celtic’s home territory.

It would be an extremely humiliating day for many of the Hoops supporters, but Sutton believes it could be the shock that the club’s hierarchy needs, a theory that not many of the fans agree with.

“Are you on the wind up?”

@stephenngrib

“Waiting for the punchline here”

@ryangilmourrr

“Big man, the humiliation has been going on since August! If the half wits in charge of our can’t see that and need us to lose the league at home to them for it to sink in we’re in bigger trouble than I thought!”

@Danielh15215783

“Absolutely not Chris, would you as a player have rolled over and let any rangers team beat you at home, to win a league, to send a message to the board… no you wouldn’t”

@mulachy_ross

“Naw. Just beat them. The humiliation is there. If people don’t grasp the nettle now losing at CP will not help at all.”

@spamfritters65

“It’s a terrible thing. Completely embarrassing. This is the legacy of Desmond & Lawwell: hoping to get beat at home to a that’s about to win their first trophy to incentivise an increase in performance? Full blown, tin pot amateur hour.”

@EtienneBojan

“Never. We should be aiming for 3 wins against Rangers, 2 in league & 1 inevitable (?) meet. These matches never mean nothing! That should be our platform for next season. We’ve lost last 3. No more!”

@dbrennan83

It’s been a season to forget for everyone involved with Celtic, and surely the only way it could get worse is seeing their biggest rivals celebrate the title on their home ground.
