Former Celtic star Simon Donnelly has talked about Fraser Forster and the possibility of him returning to Parkhead.
Donnelly recently appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the Celtic Huddle podcast and the panel talked about potential transfers for the Hoops, which led to the 46-year-old talking about Forster. He made it clear that he wishes to see the Englishman back at Celtic.
Should Celtic re-sign Forster in the summer?
Yes
No
Forster was on loan at Celtic for the 2019/20 season following his previous spell between 2010 and 2014. He is currently at Southampton and featured for the Saints against Bournemouth in the FA Cup recently, helping them to a 3-0 win in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Donnelly said that he watched the 33-year-old against the Cherries recently and he feels that Forster was an important player for Celtic in the last campaign.
He said: “I watched Fraser Forster at the weekend and I just wish he was back at the club. He was such an important player last year. I don’t know if that’s one that could be revisited [in the future].”
TIF Thoughts on Fraser Forster…
In the current campaign, Celtic have used as many as three different goalkeepers – Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard (as per WhoScored). This clearly shows that there is uncertainty about that position right now, even though Barkas arrived in the summer for a fee of £2.95 million.
Forster had impressed at Celtic in the loan spell last season, saving penalties against Rangers in the League Cup final and against Copenhagen in the Europa League. He had made the goalkeeping position his own, making 28 Premiership appearances.
Considering that he impressed at Parkhead and the uncertainty surrounding the club’s current situation in goal, it is easy to see why Donnelly wants Forster back at the club.
