Barry Fry has praised Wolverhampton Wanderers for utilising their links with Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have built their side up using players that have been brought to them by Mendes for some time, and it has certainly paid dividends, with certain players like Ruben Neves being able to flourish in the Premier League and take them to back-to-back 7th-placed finishes in the Premier League.

The methods have not been without their critics, though, with Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani having called the link “not legal and fair”. But speaking in an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Fry praised the methods used by the Molineux outfit, saying that it has been a fantastic move for them.

He said: “I think Wolves are being clever in getting this guy on board because he’s got some fantastic players under his wing, especially abroad. They’ve bought a lot of Portuguese players and various other players, and it’s another team that excites me. And what he’s done there, the manager is absolutely fantastic, the way he plays football.”

Are you concerned by the fact that Wolves do so much of their transfer business with Mendes?

There is no denying that Wolves have benefitted from the partnership; it just makes you wonder how long they can keep it going for, and what happens once it reaches the end of its cycle, because it can’t go on forever.

Wolves have used the links to really establish themselves in the Premier League. And hopefully, the next step for them will be to earn themselves a status within the game where they can work off their own brand in the future rather than having to rely on these sorts of deals.
