Former Premier League midfielder Charlie Adam was speaking on the latest PLZ Football podcast talking all things Scottish football.

Speaking about the upcoming Euros tournament, ex-Liverpool and Rangers man Adam suggested West Ham United’s Ryan Fredericks could be an outsider for a call-up to the squad.

Scotland qualified for their first major tournament in 23 years when they beat Serbia towards the back end of 2020 to secure their spot in this summer’s finals.

Fredericks was linked with representing the national side last year as a result of eligibility through his Scottish grandfather.

Adam believes the 28-year-old could still be worthy of a call-up with West Ham having a terrific season in the Premier League.

The Hammers are battling it out in fourth place and Fredericks has featured 10 times in the league for the Hammers so far this season.

“I think there’s a lad, Ryan Fredericks at West Ham, has got some sort of Scottish background as well,” Adam said.

“So that might be an interesting one to see what comes up in the next squads as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Adam’s comments on Fredericks…

Scotland are not blessed with solid, senior options at right-back, so this is a possibility that could make a lot of sense for Steve Clarke. The signing of VladimĂr Coufal has impacted the playing time Fredericks has got recently, but certainly, it seems a reasonable suggestion given their lack of options in the position.

Therefore, perhaps this is an avenue worth pursuing in the near future for the Scots.
