Speaking on the latest episode of The West Ham Way podcast, ExWHUemployee discussed David Moyes’ tactics going into their games against the ‘bigger teams’.

West Ham have impressed this season, with the Hammers finding themselves just two points behind fourth-placed London rivals Chelsea as the campaign heads into the business end.

However, on the podcast, he brought up his concern at the approach the 57-year-old has taken going into some of the games against some of the ‘bigger’ teams.

The Hammers found themselves 3-0 up at the weekend against Arsenal, but blew their comfortable lead and in turn my punters’ Ladbrokes Bonus Code as they  finished the game with just a point as Arsenal fought back to 3-3.

Speaking about his disappointment in Moyes’ negative approach, ExWHUemployee said this on the matter.

He said: “I don’t understand it myself. I think he almost has this fear, because if you look at throughout his history as a manager when he was at Everton, Manchester United and so on, he did the same.

“And he didn’t do very well against the big teams because whenever we play them, a stat comes up that David Moyes has never beaten this team in 15 games or wherever it is. So I think he’s always been like that. And I think he sees a point against those teams as being the equivalent of three points against anyone else.

“So [he] sets up to try and get that point, which is really disappointing for me, because I think certain games like Liverpool, who haven’t been as strong this season, even Arsenal – as I said on the podcast this week, you know your best way to defend against Arsenal is to attack them, because their defence is so weak, but their attack’s so good.

“So by sitting back like we did after we got the third goal, we’re inviting it to be a harder game. And I just think he has that opinion that a point is worth going for, rather than the three, it seems. And it’s a shame that he has that, and I hope next season that will change.”

Do you think Moyes deserves to be offered a new deal at West Ham?

Yes

No

West Ham lost narrowly to Manchester United just a few weeks ago, however, there was a lot of criticism after the game for the manner in which Moyes set his side out to allow the Red Devils to control the game, with Ex’s co-host Dave Walker expressing similar concerns after the Old Trafford defeat.

TIF Thoughts on ExWHUemployee’s comments…

You can sense his frustration regarding the games against Manchester United and Arsenal given the position they find themselves in the league table. If you look at the weekend’s game, the Hammers were cruising with a 3-0 lead, however, their failure to kill off the game in the second half saw them blow the chance of securing three points which would have had them level on points with Chelsea.

Having accrued one point from a possible six, it seems Ex feels short-changed given the kind of season West Ham are having and the contrasting nature of their performances over the past couple of weeks.
