Dean Windass has said he believes Jesse Lingard’s loan move from Manchester United to West Ham has been the signing of the season.

The 28-year-old struggled for form at the Old Trafford outfit over the last 18 months, making just nine Premier League starts for the Red Devils during the 2019/20 campaign.

However, in his short time at the London Stadium, Lingard has produced some magnificent displays. Since linking up with David Moyes’ men in January, the attacking midfielder has bagged three goals and provided two assists for his teammates, including a brace against Aston Villa.

His instant impact has made a big impression on former Hull City striker Windass, who believes the England international has been the best acquisition of any top-flight team.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Football Fan Cast, Windass said: “Signing of the season, well done David Moyes. I think that’s what he needed. Obviously, he had him before when Manchester United manager.

“To start off with two goals, every centre-forward in the country will tell you, when you go to a new club and score two goals, supporters there or not, people go wow.

“David Moyes will be sat at home with his wife having a coffee saying, ‘not a bad signing, that.’”

TIF Thoughts on Lingard…

Although Lingard’s impact at West Ham has been seriously impressive, we’re not sure he’s quite at ‘signing of the season’ status just yet.

However, if the midfielder can keep this level of performance up until the end of the current campaign, then he may just be in with a shout of making Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros in the summer, something not many thought was possible just a few weeks ago.
