TalkSport pundit Perry Groves has slammed Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale after his recent comments about the club.

Speaking whilst on international duty with Wales, the 31-year-old, valued at £18m on Transfermarkt, was asked about his time at Spurs and what the future holds for him, to which he said:

“I think the main reason I came to Spurs this year was to play football first and foremost. Going into the Euros I wanted to be match-fit. The original plan was to do a season at Spurs and after the Euros still have a year left at Real Madrid. My plan is to go back, that’s as far I have planned.”

Some have interpreted this, like Groves, to mean that his heart isn’t really in the right place when it comes to Spurs, focusing more on Wales and next season rather than this one, which is why, as heard on the TalkSport Daily Podcast, Groves felt that he should not be allowed to play for Tottenham again this season.

Groves said: “I would not start Gareth Bale for one game from now for the rest of the season, because he ain’t gonna give you 100%.

“When he comes back from his international break, he’s not gonna give 100% for Spurs because he’s gonna be worried about not getting injured.”

TIF Thoughts on Perry Groves’ comments about Gareth Bale’s future at Tottenham Hotspur…

Groves might be taking things a little bit too far here, especially when you consider that Tottenham have still got something to fight for this season in terms of the top four as well as the League Cup. And even if Bale’s mind has been elsewhere, as his recent form up top has shown, he does still have something to offer this side to help them make this season something of a success.

And if Jose Mourinho were to go down that route, he really would be shooting himself in the foot when it comes to his chances of staying in the job.
