Former Tottenham hero Michael Dawson has recently been praising the club’s young defender Japhet Tanganga.

Dawson appeared on an episode of The Spurs Web podcast and he talked about numerous issues involving his former club. He was also asked about Tanganga and his breakthrough into the Spurs first team. The former defender had a lot of praise for the Englishman and he believes that the youngster is a breath of fresh air for the side.

Tanganga is a product of the Spurs youth academy and made his debut for the club last season in a Premier League game against Liverpool. He has found opportunities fairly scarce this season, though he has started three of the last seven games, including Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa last weekend.

Dawson offered a lot of praise for Tanganga and described him to be ‘fantastic’ on the basis of when he first met him during Spurs’ game against Arsenal recently.

The former Tottenham man said: “When the documentary came out, I thought Tanganga was fantastic. He was a breath of fresh air, absolutely fantastic.

“I met him actually when I went for the Arsenal game, fantastic, great kid. Great to see him get the opportunity, because he had to be patient. When he broke onto the scene, I thought he was fantastic. And that’s when it’s hard sometimes as a young lad, to keep [your place] and stay there. When he’s come back in, I thought he was brilliant at the weekend – the intensity, the tackles, the hunger that he had.”

TIF Thoughts on Japhet Tanganga…

Against Aston Villa recently, Tanganga, who is valued at £7.2 million (as per Transfermarkt), came up with a very impressive display for Spurs, picking up a rating of 7.49/10.

This shows that he’s done well for the side in the current season, even though he’s not played regularly. In six Premier League appearances, he grabbed a respectable rating of 7/10 last season.

This shows that the 21-year-old has done well and because of that, he deserves more of a chance in the first team.
