Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to comments made by goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris following their defeat in the Europa League.

Having gone into the game with a comfortable lead – at least on paper – from the first leg, and naming a pretty strong side out in Croatia, Spurs were left humiliated as they eventually lost in extra time thanks to a hat-trick by Mislav Orsic.

And speaking after the game to BT Sport, Lloris labelled the performance of the players ‘a disgrace’ and that the defeat was ‘more than painful, and we are all responsible for that,’ before going on to open up about a few home truths about the state of the club and the attitude of some of the players.

His comments were relayed to the fans via the @HotspurRelated Twitter page, where many people flocked to show their support for his comments, as they all agreed that something needed to be done to get them back on track for their big ambitions as a club:

“”The team at the moment is just a reflection of what’s going on in the club. Lack of the basics and fundamentals ” Wow that says it all really. The club is a mess right now. We know it, Hugo knows it, everyone knows it”

“Finally some honesty about where we are at. Felt like the club and players are all just pretending everything is all good”
“Full respect to Hugo but this is damning. 7 of the 11 out there today are the B players with points to prove. They did not show the requisite fight. Hugo calls them out. And goes further that this is a reflection of where the club is at. This is the purge.”
“Nailed it, this is why he is captain. Not afraid to let the others know when they have let themselves and the club down. Hugo isn’t perfect but he is still a top keeper and clearly a passionate captain”
“Sounds like he’s saying there’s a lot of players sulking and not giving 100%, confirms a lot of what we see.”
“Wow. Massive issues at the club.”
“Hugo cares. He’s hurt. Shame about most of the others.”

Would you like to see Lloris stay at Spurs this summer?

Whether that means changing the players, or changing the man in the dugout, you’d be surprised if there weren’t major changes coming soon.
