Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting on Twitter after Michael Oliver has been announced as the referee for the North London derby this weekend.

Spurs travel to the Emirates Stadium this Sunday as Jose Mourinho’s men look to build on an impressive performance against Crystal Palace last time out.

The fixture between Spurs and Arsenal is always a fiercely contested affair, and this one is expected to be no different as both sides aim to keep their European qualification dreams alive.

A win for Mourinho’s side would make it four consecutive Premier League victories on the bounce for Tottenham, while Mikel Arteta’s charges will be aiming to put the disappointing draw with Burnley behind them.

Taking charge of this intriguing encounter is one of England’s most experienced officials in Oliver, but it’s a decision that appears to have split opinion amongst the Spurs supporters.

“Arguably our best ref in England but no doubt many will say he should get demoted, not good enough. Hopefully no controversy at weekend. A very experienced referee team”

@LukeConlaund4

“Best of a bad bunch really”

@thfc_cian12

“Congrats Arsenal”

“Anthony Taylor best around, not him”

@ahmed_muz

“Michael Oliver is the best of a bad bunch I guess”

@_thfctel

“Best ref in league so happy days”

The level of officiating in England has come under constant scrutiny this season, and it seems Oliver’s appointment will see him given no special treatment but at least one set of supporters this weekend.
