Nevertheless, the former Real Madrid and Inter boss is still keen to strengthen his options at the back, and Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic has been sounded out as a possible summer target.
Italian outlet Calcio Mercato is reporting that La Viola are starting to become resigned to losing the 23-year-old in the coming months, with the Serbia international’s contract set to expire in 2022. It is claimed that Spurs have made contact with the player’s representatives over a potential deal.
After these were shared online by Hotspur Related, Spurs fans appear to be excited at the prospect of defensive reinforcements arriving in north London and are hopeful Milenkovic can be the first part of a successful summer window:
“Been saying since the summer transfer window this is the guy we should be signing for centre back. We should also go for Albon Lafont on a double deal, he’s on loan from Fiorentina to Nantes still.”
“Pft. Yes please. I’d take Nikola Milenkovic and Joachim Andersen in a heartbeat. They’d walk into the squad as a top 3 CB pairing in the EPL.”
“Would help in the set-piece department for sure.”
“Levy masterclass incoming”
“Please be true I beg”
“Him and One more.”
With Toby Alderweireld approaching the twilight years of his career and Eric Dier, Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez yet to fully convince at the top level, a move for Milenkovic would perhaps make perfect sense for Spurs.
