Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Darren Bent thinks that Spurs are the perfect club for Southampton forward Danny Ings to sign for.

The 28-year-old forward, valued at £19.8m on Transfermarkt, is heading into the final 18 months of his contract at St. Mary’s and has recently been the subject of speculation linking him with a move to Manchester City to be Sergio Aguero’s replacement. He has also had his name linked with Tottenham in the past as they are ‘monitoring’ his contract situation on the south coast.

And as heard on the TalkSport Daily podcast, Bent claimed that Tottenham were the ideal team for him to go to, possibly to replace Harry Kane in the long term.

He said: “Danny Ings is a proven Premier League goalscorer, he’s an international, he’s got a chance of going with England to the Euros in the summer. I would opt to try and get him now, and then work on the Haalands or the Mbappes, wherever you’re going to go, but get somebody in first.

“One club that would have to look at him seriously is Tottenham. Because at the end of the season, if they don’t win anything, I can see Harry Kane going, ‘You know what, enough’s enough, I need to move on.’ I think if he does go, I think Danny Ings is the perfect replacement.”

TIF Thoughts on Darren Bent’s comments regarding Danny Ings to Tottenham…

There’s an awful lot of faith being put in Ings by Bent to be the ‘perfect replacement’ for Kane if he does leave this summer, because the two don’t really compare when it comes to their output at Premier League level.

And if Tottenham were to sell Kane this year, it would likely be for a hefty fee, with as much as £120m being reported by insider David Ornstein, and you’d think that with that money, they’d be able to get someone of a much higher calibre than Ings to be their main man going forward.
