Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing Lilywhites winger Steven Bergwijn and his current situation at the north London club.

This comes after Gold recently uploaded a video onto his YouTube channel where he spoke about a variety of topics concerning Jose Mourinho’s side.

On the subject of Bergwijn and his current situation at the club, Gold had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Steven Bergwijn has, in the last few days, deleted all of his Tottenham stuff from this season off his Instagram account because it’s just frustration there, we know he got abuse before as well and he hasn’t been playing the recent matches.

“I think he’ll get minutes on Thursday night [against Dinamo Zagreb].”

Spurs signed Bergwijn back in the 2020 January transfer window from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven for a fee of £27 million.

Since his arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the 23-year-old, who is currently valued at £25.2 million, has made 43 appearances for Spurs in which he has managed to score three goals and provide seven assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Alasdair Gold’s comments on Bergwijn…

Given how Bergwijn has only managed to earn himself a fairly disappointing season rating of 6.46/10 for his performances in the Premier League so far this season – making him one of the club’s lowest-rated players – suggests that he has not been in the best form for Spurs this year (per WhoScored).

Also, with Bergwijn not having made an appearance for Tottenham in the Premier League since his cameo appearance in their 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion back in early February, it’s understandable why the winger may not be particularly happy at the moment and why Gold thinks there may be an element for frustration with him.

Moving forward, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not Gold’s prediction comes true and Bergwijn gets some playing time in their upcoming Europa League match against Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday night.

With Spurs’ league form picking up recently, perhaps it is a fair prediction to make ahead of a Europa League tie that may not be deemed as important.
