Sky Sports’ Joe Thomlinson has been speaking on Football Daily’s Sunday Vibes podcast about all things Premier League related following Saturday’s action.

The football presenter spoke about Southampton following their 2-0 victory over bottom side Sheffield United after goals from James Ward-Prowse and Che Adams proved enough to seal the points against the Blades.

Speaking on the podcast, Thomlinson had this to say about Ings and his future with the Saints.

He said: “I’m sure he’s looking at this and thinking, ‘I might have one last chance to get a big contract and potentially playing for a team in European football, even if it’s Europa League football.’

“And is that going to be at Southampton? I don’t think it is. I think he’s probably going to demand to leave this summer.

“But I also just don’t see him signing a new deal. So even if he stays for one more year, I see him leaving on a free saying, ‘Okay, I’ll be 29, I’ll have one more stab at it then. Somebody probably would risk him on a free there, you know, maybe Tottenham getting him as a backup to [Harry] Kane on a free.”

Ings has featured 22 times for the Saints this season and has netted eight times throughout those appearances, but the 28-year-old was forced off the field due to sustaining an injury.

TIF Thoughts on Thomlinson’s comments on Ings…

Tottenham have been linked with Ings over the past year as a potential back up for Harry Kane, however, you have to question whether Ings would be willing to sit on the bench and wait for his opportunity with Kane being the main striker.

If he was willing to play as back up for Kane then that would certainly make for an interesting move for Spurs ahead of next season.
