Transfer insider Dean Jones has been speaking on the Touchline Talk podcast about all things transfer-related as we edge closer to the summer transfer window

Southampton have struggled in recent weeks, with eight defeats in their last nine Premier League games – a run that has seen Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side drop down to 14th place and just seven points clear of the relegation zone.

However, Jones believes the Saints boss is still wanted by many clubs and Southampton will be doing all they can to keep hold of him despite their poor recent form.

Southampton suffered a second 9-0 defeat in as many Premier League seasons when they visited Old Trafford last month, but Jones believes Hasenhuttl is still the right man for the Saints.

“From the Southampton point of view on their manager, they’ll know that there are other clubs that would snap him up straight away,” Jones said.

“And I think that that’s what keeps them believing in him. You saw, when they beat Liverpool, the emotion that came out of him. And he knows what he’s capable of.

I think he’s as frustrated as anybody that they haven’t been able to show what they’re really capable of, and I think that they kind of just need to ride this season out.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ Hasenhuttl comments…

Southampton have had a shaky season with their disastrous recent results, which have destroyed their early-season form. However, Hasenhuttl has been linked with a move to Spurs in the future on The Athletic’s Ask Ornstein show.

The reported attraction from the likes of Spurs has Jones believing Hasenhuttl is the right man to stay in charge at Southampton with just 12 games left for the Saints this season.
