Bobby Zamora has been speaking after Newcastle United’s emphatic 3-0 defeat away to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday night about the injured Callum Wilson

The Magpies suffered a heavy defeat on the south coast, which only added to their relegation worries as hosts Brighton pulled four points clear of Steve Bruce’s side.

However, Newcastle have been boosted by a report suggesting Wilson may return to the side for their game against Tottenham Hotspur after the international break.

But as heard on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, Zamora has warned Newcastle ahead of the return of their £46k-per-week man from his hamstring injury.

He said: “He’s proven he’s got the ability to do it in that Newcastle side – 10 goals this season, they’ve missed him sorely. So him coming back is key for them.

“The worrying part is it’s a hamstring injury and he’s been out for a long time, and they can be a little bit tricky. Do you throw him straight in? Do you give him 90 minutes? They’re desperate for him to play as much as possible, but there also needs to be management, the medical team need to be on it.”

Will Wilson start when he's available?

TIF Thoughts on Zamora’s comments…

Newcastle should be listening to Zamora. Wilson has a long list of injury problems over his career and this is one which he should not be rushed back from straight away. There is no doubt Newcastle need him back in their side given their form, however, they may be risking further injury if they throw him back in at the deep end too quickly.
