Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has been speaking on the latest edition of The Price of Football Podcast about all the financial news from the world of football.

Starting with a relatively recent player. Who is this?

One of the topics he discussed was the news that UEFA is scrapping Financial Fair Play and how that might help out some Premier League teams.

Newcastle United could be one of those teams should their proposed takeover by PCP, PIF, and the Reuben brothers eventually goes through.

Maguire believes that with FFP gone, the likes of PIF, should they be allowed to buy Newcastle, would be able to invest their own money.

He said: “This does appear to open up opportunities.

“So we have seen Aston Villa’s owners, they’re quite keen to invest lots, certainly with Farhad Moshiri at Everton, if the Newcastle deal goes through in due course, we could see more money coming in from PIF and things of this nature.”

Do you think this will ever benefit Newcastle?

Yes, as the takeover will happen

TIF Thoughts on PIF…

Considering how much money PIF own, if they were to finally be able to buy the Toon with FFP lifted, then you would think the possibilities for Newcastle could be very exciting.

However, there is a long way to go before we are even close to thinking about what PIF could do as they wait patiently to hear the outcome of the ongoing legal battle between the Premier League and the Toon.

If the club are successful, then the consortium could re-submit their bid to buy Newcastle and then there could be exciting times ahead, especially if FFP is scrapped.

This all sounds very exciting, and Maguire clearly thinks that PIF could invest in Newcastle; however, the arbitration case as of the start of this month hadn’t even started yet, so it remains a waiting game for those involved.
