A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to a post from their club after Christian Atsu scored a goal for the Toon’s Under-23s in a Premier League 2 match against Leeds United.
The 29-year-old, who is valued at £3.6m (as per Transfermarkt), pulled a goal back in the first half, but the Toon could not score another, and the match ended 2-1 to the Whites.
However, it was Atsu’s goal that got these Toon fans talking.
“he’s alive?”
“One for the future!”
“Baller”
Do you think Atsu has a future at Newcastle?
No, time for him to go
Yes, he could do
Atsu has not made a single first-team appearance for Newcastle this season since he featured in the Toon’s 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup.
His contract expires at the end of the season, and given his lack of game time, we would be surprised if he ended up staying for much longer.
In his time on Tyneside, he has made 121 appearances and only scored eight goals and provided a further ten assists, so it is no real surprise to see him barely involved this season.
This post continued to draw in Toon fans who had their say.
“No worse than some garbage in the first team.”
“MY STARBOY”
“Get him on the bench for the first team replacing Jeff Hendrick please”
It is clear that many Toon fans find Atsu’s goal funny, while some would actually like to see him involved in the first team.
