Newcastle United supporters have been reacting to a post on the club’s official Twitter account announcing that Anthony Taylor will be in charge of their upcoming fixture with Brighton.

The St. James’ Park outfit head to the south coast on Saturday evening in what could prove to be a pivotal clash in both club’s seasons as they fight to stay in the Premier League.

Steve Bruce’s men are currently sitting in 17th position in the Premier League table, just two points above Scott Parker’s in-form Fulham, but only one point behind the Seagulls.

A victory at the Amex Stadium over the weekend would provide a huge boost to the Magpies’ survival hopes as they aim to avoid a third relegation under Mike Ashley’s ownership.

The club relayed confirmation that Taylor will be the man in the middle for this crucial encounter, but several sections of the supporters appear to be unimpressed with the appointment.

“oh no”

@jakefinnagin

“It gets better.”

“Shelvey red card incoming”

“oof”

@ewan_m23

“Pierluigi, is that you?”

@psymonjet

“Proverbial 6-pointer.”

The only other time Taylor has officiated Newcastle this season was in their 2-1 loss to Leeds back in January; perhaps the fans are worried that lightning will strike twice on Saturday.
