A lot of Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to react to an interview with their former manager, Rafa Benitez.
Newcastle fell to Brighton & Hove Albion in a lacklustre 3-0 defeat on the south coast which saw the Seagulls pull four points clear of Steve Bruce’s 17th-placed side.
Spaniard Benitez was in charge of Newcastle for three years but was replaced by Steve Bruce after not renewing his contract with the Tyneside club.
The mood of the Toon Army was not improved after Benitez sent a message to the fanbase via an interview with the Daily Mail, a snippet of which was recently shared online by journalist Rob Draper.
Benitez said: “Some pundits say: ‘Oh, they [fans] ask for too much.’ No, they deserve something. I wish them all the best and I want them to stay up.”
In response, many took to Twitter to voice their admiration for their former manager, who is currently without a job.
“Nowt like rubbing salt in the wounds mind #NUFC”
“Best manager we have had since Sir Bobby.”
Would Benitez return to NUFC?
Yes
No
All in all, it is apparent to see some of the Newcastle fans would still like to see Benitez on the sideline for them, with some demonstrating their displeasure with current manager Bruce.
