Bruce’s men are currently embroiled in a relegation battle after winning just two of their last 17 Premier League matches and sit only two places and two points above Fulham, who are occupying the final place in the bottom three.
After the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on Friday night, Bruce said (via The Chronicle): “We’re unbeaten in our last couple. We’ve got to show the same attitude, and hopefully, big players are back around the corner. That gives us something to focus on, and I’m still convinced we’ll be OK.”
However, the 60-year old’s faith in the Magpies’ chances of avoiding the drop are not shared by the majority of the club’s supporters, as seen after reporter Lee Ryder shared his comments online:
“Has anyone pressed him on where his confidence comes from? 2 wins in 19, players being played out of position by an incompetent “head coach” who deliberately sends the team out looking for a draw in the only games we might actually win all point to us going down!”
“Has any1 cared to ask him why, where the confidence coming from, results, performances, stats, all atrocious, his entire managerial career has been a failure and this is no different”
“I think he’s trying to convince himself more at this stage, these games are shocking and he is totally clueless #BruceOut”
“Well he might be but 1 million fans aren’t”
It’s been a very disappointing campaign for the St. James’ Park outfit, and unless Bruce can turn things around quickly in the north-east, Newcastle will be experiencing their third relegation under Mike Ashley’s ownership.
