Many Newcastle United fans have been reacting to the latest updates when it comes to Steve Bruce’s future at the club.

A recent survey from local newspaper The Chronicle claimed that as many as 95% of the fans surveyed (based on 14,000 people) wanted Bruce gone from his position as head coach at the club. It’s unsurprising given the position that Bruce and the club find themselves in dangling above the relegation zone.

But according to a story from Luke Edwards at The Telegraph, despite all of the animosity from the supporters, there doesn’t seem to be much urgency to change the man in the dugout from either side.

As quoted by The Chronicle (29/3/21, 20:17): “Many key figures at the club are now expressing a growing belief Bruce will stay in charge until the end of the season while the manager is believed to have stressed his determination to continue despite intense and sustained criticism of both him and owner Mike Ashley.”

Unsurprisingly, the news has not gone down well with the fans, who couldn’t contain their anger at the lack of change despite the clear evidence that they don’t want Bruce in charge:

“Absolute joke of a situation to be in. Dear me.”

“Circus. If he’s in charge next season and Ashley still owns us I’m completely done with this club. I used to enjoy football until Ashley drained every ounce of love I had out of it.”
“Put him on gardening leave, keep paying him, but don’t let him anywhere near the team.”
“A truly absurd situation. No chance is Ashley paying compo to get a manager in AND compo to get rid of him!”
“Mexican standoff and the only losers will be the fans”
“This is so utterly depressing to see and hear! Honestly just want him gone now!”

Do you think the club will sack Steve Bruce soon?

No, they will wait too long

No, they will wait too long

Yes, they will take decisive action

It makes you wonder what it would have to take, short of actually dropping into the bottom three, to make Mike Ashley and the Newcastle United board consider making a move.
