Newcastle United supporters have been reacting on Twitter after it was revealed the club are interested in re-signing Blackburn Rovers striker Adam Armstrong in the upcoming transfer window.

The 24-year-old left St. James’ Park in the summer of 2018 after finding chances in the first team hard to come by under former Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez, but he’s gone on to prove himself at Ewood Park.

After enjoying several loan spells at clubs such as Coventry, Barnsley and Bolton Wanderers, Armstrong joined Rovers on a permanent deal for £1.7m after a successful six-month loan at the Lancashire club.

This season though, the diminutive forward has taken his game to another level, bagging 19 goals and providing three assists in 33 Championship appearances for Tony Mowbray’s men.

According to TeamTalk, Armstrong’s impressive performances have caught the eye of his boyhood club, who are considering bringing him back to the North East.

The report states that a 40% sell-on clause was inserted into the deal that took the 5’6 forward to Blackburn, which can be written off as part of the transfer giving the Magpies an advantage over other potential suitors, although the news clearly isn’t what most fans were hoping for.

“I hope this isnt true unless were in the championship”

There’s no doubting Armstrong’s goalscorers prowess in England’s second-tier but whether he is capable of replicating his best form in the Premier League remains to be seen.
