Newcastle United fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter after a report emerged suggesting Eddie Howe would be open to taking over from Steve Bruce should Mike Ashley relieve him of his duties.

The Magpies are currently embroiled in a battle to beat the drop after picking up just two wins from their last 18 Premier League matches.

Bruce has come under increasing pressure throughout the season for his team’s performances, with sections of the supporters protesting against the former Aston Villa boss after the 3-0 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion last time out.

One man who has been linked with replacing the 60-year-old at St. James’ Park is former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe.

Howe has been out of work since departing the Cherries at the end of last season, however, according to The Chronicle, the 43-year-old would be open to taking charge of the north east outfit should an opening appear, news that excited the Newcastle fans.

“Get him in immediately but make sure theres a #NUFCTakeover clause so the new owners can choose their own manager…. Rafa. If theres no takeover then Howe would be the best manager we could get under Ashley so yes please!”

@PhilipPeppiatt

“Possibly the interest from Celtic might force Ashley’s hand? He has to act! If Bruce loses on Saturday he has to go! Surely!”

@archybowld

“Get Bruce out and give him the job before we’re relegated”

@OwenBruceball

“Get him in before Celtic does man! Come on!!!!!”

@SamLennon45

“I’m on my knees don’t care what league we’re in just do it.”

@Jack_Rogers97

“Even with Ashley restrictions I think he will do a good job Howe’s main floor seems to be the transfer market but Ashley wants control over this so maybe its a good fit Get it done! Its the obvious choice!”

@ActiveArron

“Even if we got relegated under Eddie Howe I would have hope to come back up under him”

@LiamNUFC98

It’s been a tough season for Newcastle, who are on the brink of their third relegation from the top flight in 12 seasons, but Howe appears to be a popular choice to replace Bruce and could breathe new life into their fight to stay up this campaign.
