Eurosport journalist Dean Jones has been speaking on the latest episode of Touchline Talk to discuss all things transfer related with the summer window on the horizon

Speaking on potential Premier League signings this summer, Jones was asked about the possibility we could see a return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford in the summer.

The 36-year-old United legend has been linked with a move away from Juventus this summer, with Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane mentioning a potential interest in a recent press conference.

Ronaldo departed Old Trafford back in 2009 as he left for Madrid in what was a world transfer record fee at the time and Jones had this to say on the matter of a potential return.

He said: “Man United, I think the door’s closed. You know, there were murmurs earlier on in this season about that happening, and anyone I spoke to close to United was pretty quick to shut it down.

“So I don’t think that that’s going to be on the table for him. Possibly PSG? I mean, I’m sure that that link will come up again, especially if [Kylian] Mbappe leaves. But there are not many places that are going to be open to him right now on the kind of money he wants.”

Would Ronaldo want to return to Old Trafford?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Ronaldo spent six years in the Premier League and the Portuguese superstar netted 84 times in his 196 appearances in the English top-flight (via Transfermarkt).

The 36-year-old is edging closer to ending his third season in Serie A with Juventus after leaving Madrid in 2018 for the Old Lady in a deal believed to be in the region of £100m.

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Well, it would certainly make for some story. We saw last summer with the return of Gareth Bale to Tottenham that the fans love this type of reunion story. However, this would perhaps be on another level given the stature of Ronaldo, but as stated, Real Madrid have also been linked with the star which could prove just as tempting for the 36-year-old.
