Former Manchester United midfielder Keith Gillespie believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should look to sell David de Gea this summer.

The Spain international has enjoyed a fabulous career at Old Trafford, winning one Premier League title, one FA Cup, one League Cup and the Europa League, as well as collecting four Player of the Year accolades.

However, the 30-year-old has seen his starting spot come under increasing pressure from Dean Henderson this season, with the Englishman starting United’s last three top-flight fixtures.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Gillespie revealed that he would show De Gea this exit door in the upcoming transfer window.

He said: “De Gea has been fantastic for the period that he’s been there, I think now would probably be a good time to cash in and let him go.

“You have got somebody waiting to come in there, somebody who’s playing now, in Henderson. He did fantastically well last year at Sheffield United. He’s biding his time, and when he has had to play, he’s done really well.

“He’s a young English goalkeeper, he could force his way in and be England number one if he gets that regular starting place at Man United.”

TIF Thoughts on De Gea…

De Gea has been one of United’s more integral players since he arrived from Atletico Madrid back in 2011, but his form has arguably dropped ever since a disappointing display in the 2018 World Cup.

Henderson has impressed over the last 18 months, first during a season-long loan at Bramall Lane, before returning to Old Trafford this season, where he’s continued to put in some solid performances.

Choosing between the pair is likely to be a tough decision for Solskjaer this summer and one that could have serious consequences on the rest of his side.
