Sky Sports journalist Gerard Brand has been sharing his thoughts on reported Manchester City transfer target Erling Haaland and which club the Borussia Dortmund striker could move to during the upcoming summer transfer window.

This comes after Brand recently made an appearance on a recent episode of The Sky Sports Football Podcast where he spoke about a number of topics concerning Premier League clubs.

Nice easy one to start off with, who currently sits top of the table?

On the topic of Haaland and the transfer speculation surrounding the striker, Brand had this to say about City’s chances of signing him.

He said: “I think this is a player who comes along every five or six years and you do everything to sign him.

“I think City are probably, in my opinion, in pole position purely because of where they are as a club at the moment.

“It’s Pep Guardiola, who has proven himself again to be probably the best manager in world football and it just so happens that they probably need a striker and yes, City are walking away with the league without a proper striker.

“Pep actually said on Saturday that City weren’t a team with a 20-goal striker, the goals come from everywhere – [John] Stones and [Ruben] Dias scoring on Saturday – but I can’t see Pep carrying on that way. I think he’ll want a forward [this summer].”

Haaland arrived at Dortmund during the 2020 January transfer window from Austrian club RB Salzburg for a fee of £18 million.

Since then, the 20-year-old, who is currently valued at £99 million, has gone on to make 44 appearances for the Bundesliga club across all competitions in which he has managed to score 43 goals and provide 11 assists in the process (per Transfermarkt).

Should Haaland be City's number one transfer target this summer?

TIF Thoughts on Gerard Brand’s comments on Haaland…

Looking at Haaland’s stunning goalscoring record for Dortmund, it’s understandable why Premier League clubs such as City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked with a move for the striker.

In regards to Pep Guardiola’s side, with Sergio Aguero’s current contract at the club set to run out at the end of June, if the Argentine doesn’t renew his deal and leaves the club in the summer, there’s every possibility that the club could turn to Haaland to replace Aguero.

In our view, City should try their hardest to sign Haaland this summer because he has shown in the time he’s had in Dortmund that he has the talent and potential to become one of the biggest stars in world football.
