On the latest instalment of The Transfer Window podcast, Ian McGarry and Duncan Castles linked Juventus striker Paulo Dybala with a move to Manchester City.

Earlier in the week, City’s all-time top goalscorer Sergio Aguero announced he would be departing the Etihad Stadium at the end of the current campaign when his contract expires.

The Argentina international’s exit will leave a sizeable gap in Pep Guardiola’s squad, meaning the former Barcelona coach is expected to dip into the transfer market this summer in search of a replacement.

One man who has been linked with doing just that is Aguero’s compatriot Dybala. According to McGarry, the 27-year-old’s contract negotiations with Juve have collapsed, meaning the South American could be available in the upcoming window.

He said: “Interestingly, Paulo Dybala’s contract negotiations with Juventus, in terms of extension, have broken down, and he could well be the like-for-like replacement for Aguero at City.

Castles replied: “I think Dybala is one of those players who’s on the market. Juventus have not been able to get a new contract deal with him and if they can’t get him on the terms that appeal to them, after a very disappointing season by their standards, then he will be a player who will be for sale at a knockdown price, and yeah, there are elements of a stylistic play that you would say would fit into Guardiola’s system.”

TIF Thoughts on Dybala…

The former Palermo man is enduring a tough campaign, making just eight Serie A starts this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in all competitions.

A serious ligament injury has kept the diminutive striker out of Juve’s last 18 encounters, so signing the £54m-rated man this summer would arguably be a risky strategy for Guardiola.

However, there is no denying Dybala’s quality when he’s at the peak of his powers, and if the Old Lady are prepared to let him leave, then City could transition to life without Aguero with ease.
